SERVICES
FloraSearch provides a
comprehensive range of botanical services:
Flora Surveys for
Environmental Impact Statements and Species Impact Statements including
-
Plant species listing
- comprehensive lists of native and introduced flora species on
subject sites.
Vegetation community
identification and description - community characteristics
determined by quadrat sampling.
Vegetation community
mapping - by hand held GPS and/or Air Photo Interpretation (API).
Targeted searches for
threatened species and communities with mapping of locations and
boundaries by GPS.
Conducting 7 Part
Tests for threatened species and communities that occur, or may
potentially occur on the study area.
Assessment of
vegetation condition.
Documentation of weed
occurrence and presence of declared Noxious Weed species.
Rehabilitation
Monitoring -
Quantitative
assessment of survival in native species plantings.
Qualitative
assessment of plant health in native species plantings.
Post-fire Regeneration
Monitoring -
Pre-hazard reduction
burning baseline data on the size and reproductive status of
selected fire sensitive and fire dependent native plant species.
Monitoring of
post-burn recovery of marked plants of fire sensitive and fire
dependent plant species.
Regional Threatened
Species and Community Searches -
Determination of the
regional distribution and abundance of species or communities listed
under the NSW Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995 or the
Commonwealth Environmental Protection and Conservation Act 1999,
that may be potentially affected by a development project, in order
to assess the likely regional impact of the project on the species
or community.
Plant Pollination Biology
-
FloraSearch has
unique commercial expertise in plant pollination biology.
Dr Colin Bower is an
acknowledged expert on pollination of Australian native orchids and
has conducted original research on pollination of sexually deceptive
species in the tribes Drakaeinae and Caladeniinae.
He has also conducted
the first Australian, and possibly the first international, project
to identify the pollinators of a threatened plant species and
determine their ecological requirements in order to design
conservation plans for the orchid.
FloraPhoto
Quality high
resolution digital photos of Australian native and introduced plant
species.
Images of the
behaviour of thynnine wasp pollinators on Australian sexually
deceptive orchids.
All images on this
site are subject to copyright. Rights to use images may be
purchased; the cost varying according to image size.
Plant Identification
Identification of
plant samples, provided they have the necessary key diagnostic
features (i.e. specimens should comprise the whole plant, including
roots, for herbs and grasses, and foliage plus flowers and/or fruits
for shrubs and trees).

FloraSearch
is unique in its ability to provide expertise in pollination biology as
a commercial service. The
above images show the endangered Jervis Bay
Leek Orchid (Prasophyllum
affine) and its main pollinator, the Flower Wasp, Ariphron sp.

Lepidium
aschersonii -Spiny
Peppercress

Diuris tricolor -
Tricolor Diuris
 S wainsona
sericea - Silky
Swainson-pea
FloraSearch has conducted
surveys of the distribution and abundance of the above three threatened
species in Central Western NSW to clarify the regional impact of
development projects on them. |
